In this lesson we were tried the forearm climb and started learning the front & back hook spins. One thing that I didn't really talk about is that many times I didn't go to pole lessons because there wasn't anyone available to look after my daughter.
Even though my family and close friends weren't against pole dancing, they just all kinda felt that me attending classes is not important enough for them to come over and look after my daughter.
And many were saying that I mustn't bring her with me because that might be a bad example for her, since she is too young to understand the different styles of pole dancing. So when there wasn't anyone to look after her I just didn't go to classes. It wasn't a sacrifice - and I don't want it to sound like that because I always knew that I can just go another time and my responsibilities as a parent come first. After me asking people for a while if they can come over, someone suggested that I should just take my daughter with me to the class... At first I felt very conflicted about that... and I immediately assumed that the studio won't allow this. I also wasn't sure how appropriate it would be for her to be there and watch me do something that people can twist and turn into something that it's not. After dwelling about it for a while - I gave the studio a call and to my surprise they were actually very cool and said that there is absolutely no problem to bring my daughter with me :) The only people in the studio that day were me, my daughter, my friend and the instructor, which was quite nice. âMy daughter joined for the warm up and then sat down and was chilling and she was very well behaved :) âShe was only half interested in what we were doing because she had a new game on her phone which is obviously a lot more interesting that few ladies trying to climb on something and not being successful ;) I think about a year after that this studio started having pole and acro yoga classes for kids :) This makes me really happy because I didn't see a reason to hide or limit what I say to my daughter about pole dancing. I am even happier to know that there are more and more people that understand that pole dancing is an athletic sport. It is unfair to think that practicing gymnastics is totally fine but if it's pole dance then it's not ok. Or to say things like "This is not a strip club, those poles are horizontal"â - that was from a movie, implying that ballet is ok cos the barre is horizontal. âAnyways, after practicing climbing we went on with practicing the front hook spin on a static pole. âI remember the instructor telling me that I must keep my inner hip lower - that my hips should be parallel, something like that.
I have to say I felt really happy having my daughter with me.
It was quite revealing not having to worry about her or any silly things that people have said to me about how pole dancing is not appropriate for kids. â Everything turned out fine and I was thankful that finally I was getting in an environment with more open minded other than narrow minded people. â
âThank you for stopping by and I hope you check out my next post.
